Classical 101: For Children of All Ages
We're so delighted about this event held at Quail Ridge! One of my first days in the position of Community Liaison brought me to Deana Vassar's side as an ambassador to the Symphony and Quail Ridge (a local, independent book and music retail spot). We began to brainstorm on ideas to bind our three organizations together and to hold events to raise awareness of classical music and local arts. We have a few really wonderful ideas, but the first to come to pass is an educational, fun night hosted by Joan Landry (assistant conductor of the North Carolina Symphony). We're hoping to PACK the place with music lovers! Some will be music geniuses and other, more "humble" geniuses (so you love the music, but you don't know the difference between some of those crazy names they give it!). I made a little book to hang by the door of the station to help round up staff and volunteers for the event.
1. "See you there! 7 PM"
2. "See the next page to find out why I'm such an awesome lady" (She is.)
Anyway, here's what I could say in advance, without giving away too much....
Classical Music soothes and lifts your spirits, improves your concentration and helps you heal. It even raises your IQ!
You know the reasons you love listening to the music, but sometimes it's so hard to remember which concerto you heard! Why does the music have such strange names? What is the difference between a concerto and a sonata, anyway? What about a concertino, or a sonatina, for that matter? Doesn't pizzicato sound more like pie-by-the-slice than a way to play music? Of course, you can enjoy the music without becoming a musicologist, but why not REALLY raise your IQ?
Classical Music 101: For Children of All Ages.
The Classical Station partners with Quail Ridge Books & Music and the North Carolina Symphony to bring you a night of fun for the whole family! "We are delighted to announce that our host will be North Carolina Symphony Assistant Conductor Joan Landry," says WCPE Promotions Director Deana Vassar. "Landry has a shining record of commitment to youth and education." Over the years, Joan Landry's noteworthy educational programs have provided learning materials and a concert experience to thousands of children who otherwise might not have had any chance to hear this great music or witness a maestro in action! As a dedicated Symphony conductor, Landry finds a way to infuse our busy lives with information and thoroughly entertain us. We leave her presence enlightened and enthused. She is a great asset to the community who will work her magic again to teach children AND adults for this very special event.
If there is one lesson you will learn from Classical 101, it is that classical music is approachable and alive NOW. Music sparks the passion to feed the flames of our imagination. It opens a whole world of childlike wonder... even when you're well beyond childhood! Come meet and mingle with fellow music-lovers of all ages. Add something to the discussion, and enjoy thoughtful demonstrations. Discover useful listening tools, and see what the world of classical music can offer!
Join WCPE- The Classical Station, Quail Ridge Books & Music and North Carolina Symphony Assistant Conductor Joan Landry for this collaboration designed to educate, excite and lift history off the page!
